The Proposal

I wasn't looking at something over the top, I just wanted it to be an intimate affair.

This particular story that I'm about to share, has become my favourite.

So here's our story:

It was pretty unexpected, as I was expecting him to propose only after I finish my studies. And I honestly thought that we were going to celebrate Amas' birthday, which was a few days away.

It was just like any other day, as it was the last day of the March holidays, I had to go back to work. We had plans to celebrate Amas' birthday that night. I genuinely believed that we were going to celebrate Amas's birthday at night at Studio M, as his sisters booked it for him since there was a promotion. I wasn't suspicious of anything at all even though Studio M was the place where we first got together, in fact I didn't even click on the hotel promotion that Amas sent in the group chat haha. Amas' birthday was on the 23rd, so it was a norm for us to celebrate it the weekend before. I've been texting the boy the whole day and Shuang as well. I got tricked by that girl too, saying that she was at work and will be going to the party late. She even created a chat for Amas' birthday party a few weeks ago. One thing I have to say though, I am quite proud of her for keeping it as a surprise haha. Amas was talking in the chat in the afternoon and I was wondering why nobody was replying the birthday boy. So as I was leaving the house, the boy, who claimed that he was very busy at work b'cuz he needed to OT as he took leave the day before, was late and asked me to leave the house around 7pm, while we were all supposed to meet at 6.30pm at Studio M.

On the train there, I offered that we get the cake for Amas, so I told the boy to get it first since he was early. The minute I saw him at Clarke Quay, I was secretly thinking to myself, he really dressed up for the party didn't he. He had his usual sling bag, which definitely made it look like he just knocked off from work. It was a really long walk to Studio M from Clarke Quay, so we were talking and he even asked questions like, "How far more do we have to walk?" He obviously knew.

From what I know, Amas and Mat were in the hotel. We had no card access to go up to the room, so I told him to call them to come down first. They took a long time, so we waited in the lobby. I still remember taking a snapchat of the lobby and his cake stating that it was Amas' birthday party.

Finally, Amas came down and brought us up. He was leading the way and I noticed that his footsteps were very heavy and slow, but I figured that it was probably just his usual style and didn't think much of it. Then he knocked on the room door and tried to open the door with the card, but failed. So he tried again and pushed open a little, but he hesitated. I thought Mat was changing or something, then he moved aside and gave me the honour of opening the door.

I opened the door and saw Weihong, Mat, Shuang and Zhengyi and a path of candles leading to a heart. I already knew what was going to happen but at the moment, I felt really awkward and didn't know how to react haha. So I stood there and looked at him and they told us to take a photo. I remember saying, "Why didn't you ask me to wear nicer!" I always say the weirdest things at the wrong time.

As most of you already know, Studio M is a hotel with a loft concept, so we went up the stairs. And there were so many balloons on the ceiling, it was such a heartwarming sight. Heart-eyed emoticon. I was greeted with a bed scattered with flower petals in a heart with a bouquet of twelve roses and two huge metallic heart balloons on the pillows. Mat drew the curtains open and the words, "Will you marry me?" in gold metallic balloons were on the window panes.

I looked at him and he knelt down, with the ring in his hand and said,
"I love you, will you marry me?"
I nodded, and probably got too excited I bumped my head on the ceiling while nodding.
And he slipped the ring on my finger. Apparently, he said that the "I do" balloon was suppose to fly up when I say yes, but I didn't take notice of it. Was probably too caught up in the whole situation and all the pretty things around.

He popped a bottle of champagne and we celebrated with the rest.

At that moment in time, I was exploding with happiness. I was smiling myself silly the whole time. I felt like a princess who was just missing a tiara. I didn't get very emotional over the whole proposal (because he didn't say a speech), but it was a really special day to me. I love surprises. All of this still feels surreal. Am still basking in all the love and balloons. I am also extremely grateful to the ones who made this possible, you know who you are.

The next chapter. You, mine. I, yours.

Sweetest Escape

It's like meeting your lover for the first time, with your heart in your mouth and butterflies in your tummy. That was exactly what it was. It was a long 7 hour flight, and even though it wasn't my first time flying by myself, there was still a part of me that felt pretty lost. Perks was that I boarded the aircraft SQ A380 and was seated on top, the seats were huge and there was plenty of leg room and even a mini compartment for me to store my stuffs by the window. A mixture of excitement, nervousness and exhaustion all at once. To my horror, there were so many babies on board that night and I probably had only an hour of sleep throughout the flight.

If you didn't already know, the boy left for UK to study for nine months a few years back. It was the first time I was finally meeting him again in London, even though he has only been there for 3 months, but I will never ever forget that feeling. Prepping myself up in the airplane washroom, feeling my heart thump faster as I glance around to spot him waiting for me at the arrival hall. A tinge of shyness, as if it was our first time meeting, and an overwhelming feeling of happiness. Gave him a huge bear hug when I saw him as I was stuck at the custom for about an hour. Finally safe in the arms of my loved one.

I must say, it was one of the best feelings ever.

Travelled to Stonehenge, which was freezing cold with all that wind, but greeted with such a lovely sunset. There were sheeps roaming around the grass nearby too.
