Of Canals & Windmills

The initial plan was to save up, so we bought a pair of overnight train seat tickets. After much consideration, we decided to buy another pair of tickets, but this time round with beds so that it wouldn't be so exhausting. I was quite thrilled at the thought of an overnight train experience. We had a mini picnic on board. I guess it was a pleasant experience except for the cleanliness and the loud flushing sound of the toilet right next door.

The dumbest thing happened to us when we arrived at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam. We were told by the receptionist that we were supposed to check in a day before, which meant that we actually paid for a room the night that we slept on a train, and mind you that hotel was the most expensive and exquisite hotel that we have booked out of the whole trip.

Let's just say, it's the experience that counts.

Bicycles are one of the main transports in Amsterdam, in fact, cyclists have their own riding paths.

You can smell weed even on the streets of Amsterdam.

Beautiful houses by the canals.

My cousin recommended me to try out this brunch place, Gartine.

Food was delightful.

The cheesecake was mediocre.

Lovely canals.

The flowers were in full bloom even though it was pretty cold.

Mandatory touristy shots.

Went to check out the Heineken brewery.

Read about this restaurant on tripadvisor and decided to try it out. Apparently they do not have a menu, so the waiters/waitresses will go table by table to explain the menu to you.

Some sausage thing, I'm not a fan.

Soup was decent.

My main course, which consisted of 5 prawns haha.

The boy's lamb shank.

Fries and salad.

I've got a story to share. The fries were placed right beside a candle, so I was conversing with the boy and I forgot what we chatting about but he got so engrossed that when he was about to take a fry, he ended up putting his finger above the candle for a few seconds and before he even realises it, the whole tip of his finger turned black. It happened so quickly that we couldn't even believe it. Anyway, that spoilt our whole meal as he got burnt pretty badly. The poor boy..

The famous stroopwaffles and Dutch mini pancakes.

Day trip to Zaanse Schans. It's always nice to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city from time to time.

Little ducklings!

Bought this bag of yummy chips with smiley monster faces.

Have no idea why but the whole place smells as heavenly as chocolate.

OOTD shots wouldn't be a problem if I stayed in a place like this haha.

The old man looks like he's dancing.

XOXO

Back to Amsterdam.

These group of men were paddling and drinking beer at the same time on a beer bike. Such an eye-opener!

Decided to be a daredevil and try the famous herring, which is something like sashimi.

Verdict: Not my type of food.

Loved the fries from this stall and they're so friendly too.

My fries with sambal chilli haha.

Amsterdam & Zaanse Schans, you've both been wonderful.
